“Five Legged Dog” sarà il nuovo progetto dei Melvins nel quale reinventano 36 canzoni in versione acustica. La band pesca materiale dall’album “Gluey Porch Treatments” del 1987 a “A Walk With Love & Death” del 2017. Tra i pezzi anche canzoni da pubblicazioni minori come la cover di Red Kross “Charlie”, estratta dalla versione limitata del singolo “Escape From LA”, una cover dei Turtles, “Outside Chance” dal singolo “Slithering Slaughter”, ma non sono le sole cover. I Melvins riprendono anche “Sway dei The Rolling Stones, “Flypaper” di Brainiac e “Everybody’s Talking” di Fred Neil ma resa nota da Harry Nilsson. Ospite Jeff Pinkus dei Butthole Surfer che presta la sua voce e il banjo per i brani “Don’t Forget to Breathe” e “Everybody’s Talking.

“Sapevo di voler fare qualcosa di ridicolmente grande”, spiega Buzz Osborne di questa prima prestazione acustica della band. “36 canzoni re-immaginate da noi acusticamente sono certamente ridicole ma funzionano. La magia delle canzoni è ancora lì nonostante sia acustica. Dato che non eravamo in tournée, abbiamo avuto il tempo di fare qualcosa di questa portata. Sono molto entusiasta di questo disco. Dale e Steven hanno fatto un lavoro fantastico su questo lavoro. Penso che sia un disco molto speciale. Non riesco a pensare a nessun altro che abbia fatto una cosa del genere”.

L’album sarà pubblicato da Ipecac Recordings (QUI prenotabile). La copertina è di Mackie Osborne, moglie di Buzz.
